Immortality as a concept was in vogue much before reel life came into being! But interestingly, reel life is the closest that the human race has come to the concept of immortality. Even long after you are gone, you can be seen, heard, discussed and even desired! In other words, you live beyond life.Take Marilyn Monroe for example. The West's obsession with Monroe continues even decades after her death.
Amidst great hype, a collection of eight ‘unseen candid photographs' of Monroe is set to be released, with limited edition prints being distributed to select galleries throughout Britain. India too has had its share of timeless beauties since the arrival of cinema on its shores. In fact, there are scores of pin-up beauties of yore who still haunt the current generation. How else would you explain youngsters picking up posters of Madhubala, Nutan, Nargis, Mumtaz, Waheeda or Zeenat.
Says Kaveri Kumar, 21, a mass communication student, "Well, Zeenat seems to be the popular choice going by the number of posters put up in hostel rooms. In fact, even today many students still find her quite hot." An MBA student, Monendra Singh, 22, pitches in for Madhubala: "I made it a point to see the colour version of Mughal-e-Azam. Her beauty and her old world charm are so different and refreshing." But another MBA student Prateek Goyal, 24, stresses that there is no one quite like Rekha — "She is an ageless beauty. Even great actresses like Waheeda Rehman and Hema Malini don't have her grace."
So there we are. It seems old is gold indeed, going by the hold it has on Gen Now!
